Dog clothing and costumes become more and more popular the closer we get to Halloween. With close to 79 million dog owners in the United States, it is safe to say many Americans consider dogs to truly be, man’s best friend. Last year superhero costumes came in first place for most purchased costume. Also, coordinated dog and child costumes were increasingly popular. Many proud pet owners dressed up and bought matching (complimentary) outfits for their pooches. Popular coordinated costumes for 2017 such as football player and cheerleader or Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf were a big hit.
Dressing up your pet has now become the “norm”, with dogs clearly in the lead (’cause have you ever tried to dress up a cat? – seriously not fun, although cat costumes/outfits do exist; as a cat owner I will pass). Americans spent close to $370 million last year on Halloween costumes for pets, according to the National Retail Federation. A big hit for 2017 was the Taco Costume. Another big hit was the “Marilyn Monroe” pet costume. This year expect for some new, funny, outrageous pet costumes to roll out. Let’s hope they’re very comfy for our four legged friends.
